Sandspit Beach, Karachi
A rocky-edged beach southwest of Karachi where green and olive ridley turtles come ashore to nest each winter.
Sandspit is a beach southwest of Karachi, with an unusual rocky shoreline and shallow water rich in marine life, from algae to crabs. It is one of the city's favourite places to relax, with horse and camel rides along the sand. It is also a nesting ground for green and olive ridley sea turtles, which come ashore in the early winter months; the Sindh Wildlife Department has protected the nests for two decades, and WWF-Pakistan runs a wetland centre at the beach.
