Wazir Mansion
The narrow balconied house in Kharadar where Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in 1876, now a national monument open to visitors.
Wazir Mansion is a narrow three-storey house in Kharadar, wooden balconies stacked along its yellow stone front, and it is where Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in 1876. Now a national monument, the rooms hold photographs and personal effects, and the building's ordinary position in a dense working quarter of old Karachi is itself part of the story.
Why go
- ✦Birthplace of Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876)
- ✦Preserved as a national monument
- ✦Photographs and personal effects on display
- ✦In the dense old quarter of Kharadar
A House, Not a Palace
The building is modest by design and by history, a merchant's house on a working street rather than a grand residence, and visiting it in that setting gives a truer sense of the family's circumstances than any reconstruction could.
