Kalash Valleys & Chitral
Eight days in the far northwest — the Hindu Kush valleys of Chitral and the living culture of the Kalash. The Kalash valleys of Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir hold South Asia's last practising pre-Islamic mountain culture: their own language, their own festivals, wooden villages set against 7,000-metre walls, with Tirich Mir — the highest peak of the Hindu Kush — presiding over the whole province. The journey pairs valley days among the Kalash with Chitral town, its fort and bazaar, and the high road itself. Visits are arranged with respect and local guides; if your dates align with a Kalash festival (Chilam Joshi in May, Uchal in August), your planner will build around it — those weeks are the great prize of the northwest. Road conditions shape the exact order; the itinerary is confirmed with your planner before booking.
