Alamgiri Gate
Alamgiri Gate (1673), the main gate of Lahore Fort, built by Aurangzeb tall enough for elephant processions.
Alamgiri Gate is the main gate of Lahore Fort, built by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir in 1673, the same time as the Badshahi Mosque. It opens onto Hazuri Bagh, which separates it from the mosque. Two fluted, semicircular bastions with domed pavilions flank the arch, which was made high enough for royal processions on elephants. It appeared on the old fifty-rupee note.
