Churrio Jabal Durga Mata Temple, Nagarparkar
A hilltop temple of the goddess Durga on the granite hill of Churrio near Nagarparkar, a place of pilgrimage for Thar's Hindus.
The temple of Durga Mata stands on Churrio Jabal, a hill of many-coloured granite in the village of Churrio near Nagarparkar, in the Tharparkar district of Sindh. Its name comes from the Sindhi word for a bangle, for the villages around the hill have long made bangles for the women of Thar, who wear them with heavily embroidered dresses as far as Mithi and Umerkot. Hindus bring the ashes of their dead to immerse in the temple's holy water, and the hill draws pilgrims through the year.
